Ana Sia Brings the Good Vibes to St. Louis

The St. Louis area has seen its share of violence, corruption, and uneasiness in the past few months. It was a breath of fresh air when professional badass and dance music tastemaker Ana Sia stopped through for a night of joyous energy.

anasia_opt1When I arrived at 2720 Cherokee, people were slowly filling in as local talent blasted a wonderful blend of boogie flavors and jungle beats. I sipped on a tasty pineapple-cucumber concoction from one of the stellar bartenders while my friend and I caught up with old friends and made a few new ones.

It seemed like everyone there was really grateful to all come together and soak in some good live music. There was a simple, yet impressive backdrop with visuals behind the stage that was erected by a local production pro.

Ana Sia took to the decks and it was time to get down. A highly celebrated L.A.-based producer, she has turned electronic music on its head and incorporated new ideas and sounds from all over the world. Her style has grown and evolved over the years, so you never quite know what you’re gonna get when she performs.

It takes a true performer to switch up their sets, genres, and all-around feel of each show, feeding off the energy of that particular crowd. On this fine evening, we got a nice dose of bass and deep house, to which the dance floor radiantly bounced, smiled, and hooted for more.

Ana Sia is one of those artists I truly enjoy watching. She has a flow to her work that is a mixture between dancing to the music and meticulously controlling each aspect of the song. The result is a mesmerizing performance of crispy danceable beats.

Both sexy and intelligent, she is a BOSS. On top of that, she is as grounded and down-to-earth is it gets. Having got the chance to interact with her on several occasions, her realness almost catches you off guard, especially when you consider some producers’ attitudes these days.

A reminder that when one is both humble and passionate, the world is yours.
